LOS DE AFUERA SON DE PALO
Los de Afuera son de Palo is a mixed media animation and installation inspired by the recent return to the folkloric roots of more classical Argentine music genres. I created a collaged deck of 48 Spanish playing cards using visual motifs representative of my nation. As I created the card deck, I recognised that communal culinary experiences were at the heart of Argentine culture and aimed to use my animation to highlight a daily ritual: the merienda, a light shared meal in between lunch and dinner. The animation uses the card deck to introduce various visuals from Argentina before leading the viewer to a table set with a simple merienda and a classic card game named Truco.
I went on to expand the project beyond just the digital realm and developed a tablescape installation, in which a table is set with a curated and exaggerated recreation of a typical Argentine merienda. This way, viewers could experience a merienda first hand.
